A native of Buffalo, New York, buffalonian.com founder Stephen Powell has gained national recognition as a speaker, author and expert on the history of drinking in American culture, and in particular on the subject of Prohibition. His 1996 book entitled "Rushing the Growler" is a study on the history of the brewing industry in Buffalo. The popularity of the book took him by surprise and it is in its fourth printing.

He currently serves on the board of the Western New York Heritage Press, Inc.

He has consulted and appeared in numerous history related projects, including documentary projects for the History Channel and George Washington University.

Last year (2003) Steve completed work on production of a video documentry on the "A Round for the House -a history of alcohol in America". In addition he is researching his next book on the role of alcohol consumption in American history, a cultural perspective.
