B. REINSTEIN SCORES ONE ON ARCH-ENEMIES

Buffalo Courier June 30, 1906

Dr. Boris Reinstein, a world famous Socialist, lived in Buffalo in the early 20th Century and eventually went on to serve under Soviet Revolutionary Lenin.

Fresh from Penitentiary the Socialist Labor Leader addresses East Side Gathering and Piles [sic] Into Police.-- Without Permit and Glad of It--. Speaks in English Too, but There Is no Blue Coat Present to listen-Meeting for the purpose of sympathizing with Jews in Russia. Boris Reinstein. Just out of the penitentiary, where he had served a few days for having delivered speeches at Main and Mohawk without a police permit, slipped away from home last night and addressed a labor gathering at Schwartzmeiker's Hall, at Sycamore and Jefferson Street in the very shadow of the Sycamore Police station. He had no permit. The police have long objected to the nature of Reinsteins remarks and his apparent closeness to Emma Goldman and her ilk. He was told to get a permit if he wished to speak. "The police have no right to over-rate the constitution in this country, "said Reinstein. "We expect this in Czarist Russian but America is supposed to be a land of liberty yet in Buffalo, an American city, they drag me, and others speakers of the Socialist Labor Party to the police station and have us fined or sent to the pen."
