BUFFALO MAKES EXCELLENT SHOWING

Govt. Official Praises Work of Local Elevators.

Capt. N. Bernard Nelson, United States supervising inspector of steamboats was in Buffalo yesterday on his regular tour of inspection.

"The season just closed was a busy one considering labor troubles and car shortages at the early period." Said Capt. Nelson. "The shipments of ore and coal increased after the middle of the season and from what reports I have seen, the boats had a good season's business all told."

"I was a bit surprised that Buffalo didnčt get a larger winter storage grain fleet, but the elevators here handled the grain so rapidly that there was little left for the boats to hold at the finish.

Buffalo made a splendid showing in ore receipts finishing in second place, next to Astabula and ahead of Cleveland. Some lakeport has Buffalo, I don't hesitate to say." Capt. Nelson returned to Cleveland last night.
