1,000 JOIN SHELTON SQ. CAROL SING

Courier-Express

December 25, 1948

The joy of Christmas, expressed in music and song, echoed beneath the spires of St. Paul's Cathedral yesterday as more than 1,000 persons joined for Buffalo's 30th annual carol-sing at Shelton Sq.

Assembling during the noon hour, young and old from all walks of life, sent forth tidings of the season on the crisp air of downtown Buffalo.

The throng was led in singing by Mrs. George B. Barrell and special music was presented by the Nichols School Senior Glee Club directed by Kenneth C. Gill, Courier-Express music critic, and the Campfire girls, who were led by Miss Grace Baird.

Instrumental accompaniment was furnished by members of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Louis Impellitier, who has been present for every one of the Yuletide carol-sings.

Other highlights of the downtown gathering, were reading of a Christmas prayer by Jane Keeler of Studio Theater and music from the chimes of St. Paul's Cathedral, played by Wilford J. Miller.
